Cottage Core
Praire Village, Kansas
The Ask
The client aimed to expand their home by adding a new primary suite on the main floor. Featuring a spacious walk-in closet and a sanctuary-like master bathroom, the suite was envisioned as a cozy, serene, and highly functional retreat, rich with charm and thoughtful details. In keeping with the cottage-style design, the client sought to express their personality through a harmonious mix of soft, calming colors alongside bold hues and textures.
The Result
This cottage home remodel added just under 600 square feet, with careful attention to creating an old-world, cottage-inspired aesthetic. The vaulted primary bedroom features nickel-gap siding on the ceiling, wall sconces, and a soft, layered color palette that creates a serene, inviting atmosphere. The en suite bathroom includes a custom vanity, brass fixtures, marble, and detailed trim, with a standout arched glass shower doorway leading to walls of blanca ripple-effect subway tile and a black slate mosaic floor, creating a striking light-and-dark contrast. A bold, moody red hue and patterned wallpaper in the private commode add playful character, while wainscoting and a chair rail maintain sophistication. Together, these rich yet soothing elements combine to deliver the cozy, charming cottage sanctuary the client envisioned.
